Apex Legends is finally making its way to the Switch, a lot sooner than you may have guessed.

On Tuesday, amid several other announcements (including the Mass Effect Legendary Edition release date), EA revealed the Switch version of the Battle Royale will debut on March 9.

Respawn Entertainment's hero-based shooter is coming to the handheld/console hybrid with the help of Panic Button, the same studio that's handled Switch ports like Doom and Warframe in the past.

"Porting Apex Legends to its smallest screen yet is a major achievement, and we couldn’t have done it without our friends at Panic Button," said game director Chad Grenier. "We’re very proud of what the team has been able to achieve with some smart optimizations for the Switch port to deliver a full-featured Apex Legends experience on the go."

This new version will come with cross-platform play and "full feature parity." It will also feature all the latest seasonal content as it drops on other platforms.

The Switch release date confirmation comes just in time for the debut of Apex’s Season 8, Mayhem, which introduces the game's 16th Legend. There's also the infinitely useful Gold Magazine and some much needed changes for the Kings Canyon map, with plenty of new places to explore and camp in.

Since Switch players won't be able to take part in Season 8 for some time, EA is giving those who play on the Nintendo platform 30 free levels included in their battle pass. For the first two weeks after launch, Switch players will also get double XP.

Apex Legends will be free on Switch on March 9. Until then, it's available across all platforms, including PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
